(Mishnah): We are Mechalel Shabbos for her.

(Shmuel): We may make a bonfire for her [if she says that she is cold] even in summer.

(Mishnah): We tie the umbilical cord.

This is like the Shifchah of Bar Kapara. She went to deliver a baby on Shabbos. She asked Rebbi [whether or not she may cut the umbilical cord]. He told her to ask [another] midwife. She said that there is no [other] midwife here;

Rebbi told her "do like your (i.e. the local) custom.'' She said that there is no custom. He told her to cut, like R. Yosi.

The text of our Mishnah should say "one may do on Shabbos all needs of a woman who give birth.'' (The next Perek teaches about Milah.)
