Explanation #1: They said [incredulously] "wouldn't you have reigned, and been Rosh Yeshiva?!" (Surely, you would have!)
וי"מ בניחותא דמר קאי אר' יוחנן כלומר אי יתיב מר לא הוה מליך ר' יוחנן.
Explanation #2: They said simply [not incredulously. The second] "Mar" (the master) refers to R. Yochanan. They said [to Ilfa] "had the master (you) stayed, R. Yochanan would not have reigned."

TOSFOS DH Yavo Maneh Ben Pras

כלומר מוטב שיבא גדול בן הדיוט דפרס לא הוה אלא חצי מנה
Explanation: It is better that a Gadol, the son of a Hedyot, come. Pras is only half a Maneh;
ואל יבא מנה בן מנה דהיינו רב חסדא דהיה מנה כלומר שהיה חשוב ופרס היינו יצחק אבוה דרב נחמן דלא מיקרי רב יצחק.
Maneh Ben Maneh should not come, i.e. [the son of] Rav Chisda, who was a Maneh, i.e. important. Pras refers to Yitzchak, the father of Rav Nachman [bar Yitzchak]. He was not called Rav Yitzchak.
TOSFOS DH Amar Lei Zavda Aisi Bahadaihu

פירוש וכי צידה הביאו עמהם שיהו אוכלות כלומר אי אפשר שלא יאכלו התבואה והזרעים.
Explanation: Did they (the locusts) bring provisions with them to eat?! I.e. it is impossible that they will not eat the grain and Zera'im.

פירוש שבני מעיו של חזיר דומין למעים של בני אדם ויש לחוש שיהא על בני אדם
Explanation: The intestines of pigs resemble those of people. There is concern lest it affect people.
מכאן נראה שאם יהיה דבר על עובדי כוכבים שיש לחוש ויש להתענות דהא הכא חזינן דגזר תעניתא מדבר שהיה בחזירין משום דדמו מעייהו לבני אדם וכל שכן דנכרים דדמו לישראל.
Extrapolation: If pestilence is found among Nochrim, we should be concerned and fast. Here we see that they decreed a fast due to pestilence among pigs, for their intestines resemble those of people. All the more so [we should fast if it is found among], Nochrim, who resemble Yisre'elim [even more than pigs].
