ERCHIN 28 (11 Tamuz) - in honor of the birthday of Yakira Linzer.

1)

DOUGHS THAT DO NOT BECOME BREAD (Yerushalmi Chalah Perek 1 Halachah 3 Daf 7a)

äñåôâðéï èøé÷è'. äãåáùðéï îìé âàìä. åäàéñ÷øéèéï çìéèéï ãùå÷ [ãó éá òîåã à (òåæ åäãø)] åçìú îñøú çìéèéï ãîéé.

(a)

Sufganim (in our Mishnah) are Triktim (a soft dough), Duvshanim are filled with Devash (honey). Iskritin is scalded dough made to sell in the market, and Chalas ha'Meshares is dough scalded in water.

øáé éåçðï àîø èøé÷èà çééáú áçìä åàåîø òìéå äîåöéà ìçí îï äàøõ. åàãí éåöà áä éãé çåáúå áôñç.

(b)

(R. Yochanan): Trikta is obligated in Chalah, and one says on it ha'Motzi Lechem Min ha'Aretz, and one is Yotzei [Matzah] through it on Pesach. (Below, we challenge him from our Mishnah.)

ø"ù áï ì÷éù àîø èøé÷èà àéðä çééáú áçìä åàéï àåîøéï òìéå äîåöéà ìçí îï äàøõ åàéï àãí éåöà áå éãé çåáúå áôñç.

(c)

(Reish Lakish): Trikta is not obligated in Chalah, and one does not say on it ha'Motzi Lechem Min ha'Aretz, and one is not Yotzei through it on Pesach.

øáé éåñé àîø úøúéé ø' éåçðï àîø èøé÷èà çééáú áçìä åàåîø òìéä äîåöéà ìçí îï äàøõ åàãí éåöà áä éãé çåáúå áôñç ø"ù áï ì÷éù àîø èøé÷èà àéðä çééáú áçìä åàéðå àåîø òìéä äîåöéà ìçí îï äàøõ åàéï àãí éåöà áä éãé çåáúå áôñç.

(d)

(R. Yosi): There are two [arguments in which R. Yochanan considers something bread in three ways, and Reish Lakish totally disagrees]. R. Yochanan says that Trikta is obligated in Chalah, and one says on it ha'Motzi Lechem Min ha'Aretz, and one is Yotzei through it on Pesach. Reish Lakish says that Trikta is not obligated in Chalah, and one does not say on it ha'Motzi Lechem Min ha'Aretz, and one is not Yotzei through it on Pesach;

øáé éåñé àîø çåøé (øáé éåñé àîø) øáé éåçðï [àîø] ëì ùäàåø îäìê úçúéå çééá áçìä åàåîø òìéå äîåöéà ìçí îï äàøõ åéåöà áå éãé çåáúå áôñç øáé ùîòåï [áï ì÷éù] àîø ëì ùäàåø îäìê úçúéå àéðå çééá áçì' åàéï àåîøéï òìéå äîåöéà ìçí îï äàøõ åàéï àãí éåöà áå é"ç áôñç.

(e)

(R. Yosi): The other is, R. Yochanan says, any [dough that would be obligated in Chalah if baked normally,] if fire goes under it, it is obligated in Chalah, and one says on it ha'Motzi Lechem Min ha'Aretz, and one is Yotzei through it on Pesach. Reish Lakish says, anything that fire goes under it, it is not obligated in Chalah, and one does not say on it ha'Motzi Lechem Min ha'Aretz, and one is not Yotzei through it on Pesach;

à"ì ø' éåçðï åáìáã ò"é îù÷ä.

(f)

R. Yochanan (to Reish Lakish): [Your teaching applies] only [if it was fried] in a liquid.

îúðé' ôìéâé òì ø' éåçðï äñåôâðéï åäãåáùðéï åäàéñ÷øéèéï åçìú [ãó æ òîåã á] äîùøú åäîãåîò ôèåøä îï äçìä.

(g)

Question (against R. Yochanan - Mishnah): Sufganim, Duvshanim, Iskritin, Chalas ha'Meshares and Meduma are exempt from Chalah.

ôúø ìä áñåôâðéï ùðòùå [ö"ì áçîä - ø"ù ñéøéìéå]

(h)

Answer: He explains that it refers to Sufganim made in the sun;

[ö"ì ãúðéà éåöàéï áñåôâðéï ùðòùå - ø"ù ñéøéìéå] áàåø. åàéï éåöàéï áñåôâðéï ùðòùå áçîä. (éåöàéï áñåôâðéï ùðòùå áàåø - ø"ù ñéøéìéå îåç÷å)

1.

(Beraisa): One is Yotzei [on Pesach] with Sufganim made through fire, but not with Sufganim made in the sun.

åìéú äãà ôìéâà òì ø"ù áï ì÷éù.

2.

Question: Does this not argue with Reish Lakish [who says that one is not Yotzei]?!

ôúø ìä ëùäéä äàåø îäìê îï äöã.

3.

Answer: He explains that it when the fire is from the side (this is like baking. When the fire is under, it is not bread.)
