(R. Ze'ira citing Rav Chisda): Pegs that jut out from the walls of the Mavuy - one puts a Korah on them and permits the Mavuy. This is only if they [hold the Korah] within three [Tefachim] of the walls of the Mavuy.

Two Amora'im [argued about this]. One said that [the pegs] must be strong enough to hold a Korah and its half-brick. (A Korah must be wide enough to hold half of a three-Tefachim brick, and Chachamim require also that the Korah be strong enough to hold it - Mishnayos 1:3,4). The other said, [the pegs are Kosher] even if they are not strong enough to hold a Korah and its half-brick.

Question (R. Ze'ira): One may not [carry] under the Korah, and [the Korah] permits the Mavuy?!

Answer (Rav Acha bar Ilah): Why should it not [permit]? Do we not find so according to Shmuel? Shmuel said that under the Korah is forbidden, and it permits the Mavuy!

(R. Ze'ira citing Shmuel): Under the Korah and Bein ha'Lechiyim (in line with the Lechi) is judged like a porch.

Question (R. Ze'ira): Like which porch is it - like a permitted porch or a forbidden porch?

Answer (R. Ze'ira): When I was there [in Bavel], I was unsure about this. When I came to here (Eretz Yisrael), I heard R. Yosa citing R. Yochanan, say that a porch 10 tall and it is not four wide [is Mekom Petur; it] is permitted here (one may transfer to Reshus ha'Yachid) and permitted here (to Reshus ha'Rabim), as long as he does not transfer [via the porch from Reshus ha'Yachid to Reshus ha'Rabim or vice-versa].

(R. Mana, in front of R. Yosi): See what [R. Yochanan] says! He said only when there is not a width of four [Tefachim], but if there is a width of four, it is forbidden. (Likewise, under the Korah is permitted only if it is less than four wide.)

Rebuttal (R. Yosi): [When the Korah is four,] this is Amaltarah. Is [under] Amaltarah not permitted?!

(R. Ze'ira): Shmuel and R. Yochanan [argued about this] - Shmuel said that under the Korah is forbidden, and R. Yirmeyah permits.

All agree that Bein Lechiyim is forbidden.

Support: A Mavuy with Lechiyim along its length - if there are four Tefachim between one and the next, one may carry until [the inner edge of] the outermost one (only it is considered a Lechi). If not, one may carry until [the inner edge of] the innermost one (they are all considered one Lechi, due to Lavud. This Tana holds that Lavud applies up to four Tefachim.)

(Rabanan of Kisarin citing R. Ukva): This is when the outermost one does not exceed [the others], but if it exceeds (i.e. it is thicker, and extends further into the width of the Mavuy than the others, it is recognized that it alone permits the Mavuy, so even if there are not four Tefachim between one and the next, one may carry until [the inner edge of] the outermost one.
