DAF DISCUSSIONS - CHAGIGAH 6

Mordechai Goldstein asked:

Your point by point outline/Olahs before Mtan Torah. Only addresses Midbar. How about the Olah referenced in the Akeidah? Is there any source that this could have been B'Toras an Oleh? The pasuk is specific.

4) WHAT KORBAN WAS BROUGHT BEFORE THE TORAH WAS GIVEN

(a) Beis Hillel maintains that Shelamim were brought in the Midbar before the Torah was given (Shemos 24:5).

1. When the verse (ibid.) says that an Olah was brought, it refers to the Olas Tamid (from which we cannot learn the laws of other Olos, such as the Olas Re'iyah).

(b) Beis Shamai maintains that both Shelamim and Olos were brought in the Midbar.

1. When the verse (ibid.) says that an Olah was brought, it refers to the Olas Re'iyah.

(c) Beis Shamai, R. Yishmael, and R. Eliezer all maintain that the Olah brought in the Midbar was the Olas Re'iyah.

(d) Beis Hillel, R. Akiva, and R. Yosi ha'Glili all maintain that the Olah brought in the Midbar was the Olas Tamid.

(e) Their opinions are inferred from statements that each Tana made.<<

The Kollel replies:

The Sugya is only discussing Korbanos brought by Klal Yisrael, not other Korbanos brought earlier in time. Otherwise, the Gemara would have discussed Noach's Korbanos, as is stated "va'Ya'al Olos ba'Mizbei'ach" (Bereishis 8:20).

All the best,

Yaakov Montrose

Mordechai Goldstein responded:

Thank you Yaakov.

Do you know if these earlier karbonos by the Akeidah and by Noach were ACTUAL olahs with all the dinnim of olahs like natuach and nifshat?

The Kollel replies:

I would think that Noach's Korbanos were similar to other Olos which are brought on a Bamah (see last Mishnah in Zevachim). Avraham's Korban was slightly different, as is apparent from the Shechitah being b'Tzafon (unlike a regular Bamah).

All the best,

Yaakov Montrose
