DAF DISCUSSIONS - PESACHIM 118

Stuart Plaskow asks:

My latest question?? Pesachim 118a3 in Artscroll Edition, describes this Hallel as superior to the standard Hallel as Rashbam notes ''It relates that Hash-m distributes sustenance to all creatures.''

So my simple question: WHY NO BERACHA RECITED.??

Yom Ha'Atzmaut Sameach.

The Kollel replies:

Thank you for your relevant question.

If I understand you correctly, you are asking why is it that we do not say a Berachah on the Hallel ha'Gadol said on the Seder night. If this is your question, we must ask a prior question: why do we not say a Berachah altogether on the usual Hallel we say on this night, since it is a Hallel ha'Shalem which -- according to all Poskim -- is usually said with a Berachah. The question of saying a Berachah on the Seder Hallel is a well-known Machlokes. The Ramban holds that a Berachah should be said on the Hallel of the Seder, while Rav Hai Gaon says that a Berachah should not be recited. He explains that the usual Hallel is to be "said," while this Hallel is to be "sung." The Hallel on Pesach night is a song and supposed to flow out of us with gratitude and gratefulness. In the Gemara on Daf 85b, we find testimonies that the Hallel was said so loudly the the rooftops almost collapsed!

The understanding of Rav Hai Gaon is that since the main idea of this Mitzvah is the feeling of gratitude and happiness, it is not guaranteed that everyone can perform this Mitzvah fully, since it has to do with feelings and mindset, and we cannot fix a Berachah in a case where the fulfilling of the Mitzvah is dependent on something not absolute.

Steven asks:

Unfortunately!! My question was misunderstood. I'm asking WHY!! On "Pesukei D'zimroh' Shabbat & Chaggim' NO Blessing recited. ???

The Kollel replies:

Hi again,

Aren't there two blessings on Pesukei de'Zimra? It starts with Baruch she'Amar, and ends with Yishtabach, both are special Brachos on the Shvachim we say to Hash-m in Pesukei de'Zimra!
