TEACHING GREEK (Yerushalmi Peah Halachah 1 Daf 3a)

Question: The Mishnah also taught about Talmud Torah (Torah study). They asked R. Yehoshua, "Maybe a person teach his son Greek?"
àîø ìäí éìîãðå áùòä ùàéðå ìà éåí åìà ìéìä ãëúéá (éäåùåò à) åäâéú áå éåîí åìéìä
Answer (R. Yehoshua): One could teach it to him at a time that isn't day or night, as the pasuk states (Yehoshua 1:8), "and you will meditate in it day and night".

Question (Baraisa): R. Yishmael said - "And you shall choose life" - this refers to a trade; but don't you learn from the pasuk "and you will meditate in it day and night" that a trade should be prohibited?

Answer (Rebbi son of R. Chiya bar Vava citing R. Yochanan): To teach Greek is prohibited because of the possibility of informers (who would be able to slander other Jews to the Greek authorities).
øáé àáäå áùí ø' éåçðï îåúø ìàãí ììîã àú áúå éååðéú îôðé ùäåà úëùéè ìä
(R. Abahu citing R. Yochanan): It is permitted to teach one's daughter Greek, because it would be an adornment for her.

Shimon heard this and said, "Since R. Abahu wants to teach his daughter Greek, he blamed the permission on R. Yochanan! I should get what I deserve if he did hear from R. Yochanan (that it is permitted)!"
