(Mishnah): The Kohen takes an earthenware flask, and puts in it a half Log of water from the Kiyor (laver. A Log is about a half liter);

R. Yehudah says, he puts in a quarter [Log].

Just like [R. Yehudah] requires less [of Parshas Sotah] in the writing (in the scroll), he also requires a smaller quantity of water.

Question: Granted, there he expounds "El Kli Cheres Al Mayim Chayim." Here, what [source] do you have [to require a new Kli]?

Answer (R. Yochanan): He holds like R. Yishmael (below, who requires Mayim Chayim, and he learns the Kli from the water);

(Beraisa): Mayim of the Kiyor (laver) - R. Yishmael says, it is spring water. Chachamim say, any water [is Kosher for it].

R. Lazar holds like R. Yishmael regarding water, and R. Yishmael holds like R. Lazar regarding a new earthenware Kli.

A Beraisa was taught which says that a new earthenware Kli [is needed]. R. Yishmael says so.

Some teach "bi'Chli Cheres", and not in a shard. Some teach even in a shard.

Assumption: The one who says "bi'Chli Cheres", and not in a shard is R. Lazar. The one who says even in a shard is Rabanan.

Rejection: Both of them are Rabanan. The one who says "bi'Chli Cheres", and not in a shard, this is when the majority was removed and the minority remains. The one who says even in a shard, this is when the minority was removed and the majority remains.
