1)

FOODS THAT CAN BE USED FOR MATZAH (Cont'd) (Yerushalmi Halachah 4 Daf 17a)

(a)

Question: What is the source that a Kohen can fulfill his obligation on Pesach with matzah baked from Challah or Terumah and a Yisrael with Maaser Sheni grain? (Shemos 12, 18), "...you shall eat matzos'' - includes them.

(b)

If so, I might say that Kohanim can use Bikurim? (Shemos 12,20), "...in all of your dwellings you shall eat matzos'' - Matza that may be eaten in any place of dwelling. This excludes Bikurim that cannot be eaten in any dwelling (only in Yerushalayim).

(c)

Question: Maaser Sheni cannot be eaten in any place of dwelling (only in Yerushalayim)?

(d)

Answer: It could be redeemed and then eaten in any place.

(e)

Query (R' Bun bar Chiya): Food acquired with money that had received the Kedushah of Maaser Sheni (through redemption) and that became Tamei, what is the din according to R' Yehudah (in the following Beraisa)?

(f)

(Beraisa): Food acquired with Maaser Sheni money that became Tamei can be redeemed. R' Yehudah says that it should be buried.

1.

They said to R' Yehudah - If Maaser Sheni itself that became Tamei can be redeemed, certainly Maaser Sheni money should be able to be redeemed.

2.

R' Yehudah responded - No. Maaser Sheni can be redeemed when tahor when far from Yerushalayim, but Maaser Sheni money cannot.

(g)

Answer to (e): Since it cannot be redeemed and eaten in any place, one cannot use it for matzah.

(h)

Query (R' Shimon B''L): Challa of a dough of Maaser Sheni in Yerushalayim, since it cannot be redeemed and eaten in any place (as it has already entered Yerushalayim; and if it becomes Tamei it must be burned, not redeemed), should one not be able to use it for matzah? Or alternatively, it should be permitted to use for matzah as the verse is all-inclusive? (Note: The last sentence follows the understanding of Rav Chaim Kanievski.)

2)

CHALLOS TODAH AND REKIKEI NAZIR AS MATZAH (Yerushalmi Halachah 4 Daf 17a)

(a)

I might say that one could use Challos Todah and Rekikei Nazir as matzah (see Mishnah earlier 1(c))? (Shemos 12, 15), "For seven days matzos shall be eaten'' - Matzah are eaten for all seven days but Challos Todah and Rekikei Nazir cannot be eaten all seven days (as they become Nosar).

(b)

(R' Yona quoting R''SBL): Since Challos Todah and Rekikei Nazir could be eaten in all of Eretz Yisrael (during the time when the Mishkan was in Nov and Givon, private altars were permitted and these accessories to the sacrifices could therefore be eaten anywhere where their sacrifices were brought), the tanna could not exclude them from use as matzah with the verse "...in all of your dwellings you shall eat matzos''. (He therefore used the verse "for seven days matzos shall be eaten''.)

(c)

(R' Yosa quoting R''SBL): It is specifically this tanna who holds that Challos Todah and Rekikei Nazir could be eaten in all cities of Eretz Yisrael and he could therefore not exclude them from use as matzah with the verse "...in all of your dwellings you shall eat matzos''.

(d)

Question: One can understand Challos Todah [that they could be eaten anywhere at the time when private altars where permitted]; but could Rekikei Nazir be brought on a private altar? Did R' Yochanan not say (about the Beraisa that stated that according to R' Meir Menachos and Neziros can be brought on a private altar) that the Beraisa should not mention Neziros as they are an obligation and cannot be brought on a private altar?

(e)

Answer (R' Bun bar Kahana): These Rekikei Nazir were from a case when his Chatas offering was brought in the Mishkan, but the Mishkan in Shilo was destroyed before he had brought his Olah and Shelamim offerings and he therefore brought them in Nov or Givon (as they were voluntary sacrifices that could be brought on a private altar).

(f)

Question (R' Chananyah/R'Ezra to R' Mana): Did R' Yosa not say that Shalmei Chagiga that are brought on a private altar are valid, but their owner does not fulfill his obligation? (So too Shalmei Nazir (the Shelamim offerings brought by a Nazir), which are an obligation, cannot be brought on a private altar?)

(g)

Question: Rather, does this Beraisa follow R' Yehudah that an individual can bring Chatas and Pesach offerings only on a communal altar but not on a private one? (But the Gemara is looking for a case where the Shelamim can be brought anywhere!)

(h)

Answer: It must rather follow R' Shimon, that once one of the bloods (of his three offerings) have been thrown upon him, the Nazir becomes permitted to drink wine and come into contact with the dead.
