DAF DISCUSSIONS - KIDUSHIN 12

Avrahom asks:

1. Regardless of eidim being available how do we know Rav Chisda's ability to evaluate. It may have Hannah value to the daughter who accepted. Regardless why would Rav Chisdah not rule it a safeik and have the first give a get (unless the second one was a Kohein).

2. Modern day assuming they were actual twins they must be fraternal, identical twins once she enters labor it's the same sack.

3. Medically once she gives birth that will also have significant impact on the uterine wall- that's why she bleeds for a while afterward.

4. Even if they were not twins statistically unlikely but if she was with her husband before showing simanim once she goes into labor for the conception 9 months earlier, the other would have to be delivered and incubated as needed.

Regardless consider the time period surviving a normal pregnancy was a Neis. I'd have to check Galen and Hippocrates but I doubt I'll find documentation and they'd likely assume twins as well.

The Kollel replies:

Hi again R' Avrahom,

1. If I understood you correctly, you are asking how can Rav Chisda evaluate the object given to the daughter, since it might be that the Hana'a the daughter got was worth a Pruta.

To say that there is a degree of pleasure in receiving an object, which is worth a Pruta or more, while the market value of the object is less than a Pruta, this needs extremely clear evidence. If Rav Hisda believed that the object is not worth a Pruta, a very clear estimate is needed that the recipient of that object will consider the pleasure to be more than worth a penny. This of course is after we know that Rav Chisda does not agree with Shmuel's opinion, which states that we always need to assume that the object might be worth more somewhere else.

2. I'm not sure what you are referring to. Can you please explain your question once more?

Best regrds,
