DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 56

Julian Hurwitz asks:

Shalom,

Is the Sus Lavan refered to on daf 56b a zebra ?

If not what is a zebra in gemora terminology ?

The Kollel replies:

A Sus Lavan is a white horse. The zebra was not endemic to the Middle East and would not be mentioned by Babylonian sages. (Besides, logically, why would a zebra be called a white horse anymore than a black horse?) Also, it is not a domesticatable animal so it would not have even been imported.
