all avodos that were done _daily_ were done by payis. What does the word _daily_ come to exclude? I thought it came to exclude musafim of Sukkos (maybe the avodos were assigned oldest to youngest in each mishmar?) but this is not the case, as musfei sukkos were also done by a new payis. So what does the Rambam come to exclude by the words "she'osin b'chol yom"? Thanks -Herschel
It would seem to me that the Rambam (Hilchos Temidin u'Musafin 4:1) is stressing the payis was done daily because the main source for the payis is the Mishnayos in Yoma (starting 22a), which is mainly discussing Yom Kippur. To make sure people do not mistakenly think this only takes place on Yom Kippur, the Rambam said "that are done daily."
All the best,
Yaakov Montrose
