What is the significance of "Ish Achiv Lo Yidchakun"?

1.

Malbim: They must be careful not to go disheveled, to the point that one pushes another and he falls. Rather, each goes in his path paved in front of him ("Gever bi'Msilaso"). One is not far from his colleague, and not pressed against him.

2)

Why does it say "Gever bi'Msilaso"?

1.

Radak: It says Gever, because [the locusts] were compared to men and Giborim, even though Gever applies only to people.

3)

What is the meaning of "u'V'ad ha'Shelach"?

1.

Rashi: This is like "Be'ad ha'Chalonim" (9).

2.

Ri citing Targum Yonasan: This is an expression of Shelichus. Due to Hashem's Shelichus, they make themselves fall 1 , and did not take bribes. Radak - Yivtza'u is like "Sone'ei Vatza" (Shemos 18:21).

3.

Radak: Shelach is the sword. This is like "me'Avor ba'Shalach" (Iyov 33:18) and "v'Ein Mishlachas ba'Milchamah" (Koheles 8:8). U'V'ad is like on, e.g. "va'Yisgor Hashem Ba'ado" (Bereishis 7:16), "v'Chiper Ba'ado" (Vayikra 16:6). Yipolu is like Yachanu (camp). The same applies to "Al Pnei Kol Echav Nafal" (Bereishis 25:18), "Nofelim ba'Emek" (Shoftim 7:12).

1

Our text of Yonason is like Radak says - they kill, and do not accept money in lieu of killing, unlike other enemies.

4)

Why does it say "Lo Yivtza'u"?

1.

Rashi: They will not receive money.

2.

Radak: This is like "Lo Yiftze'u" (they will not be wounded), like "Petza Tachas Patza" (Shemos 21:25). It is Po'el Omed (the action applies only to the subject). "U'Vetza'am b'Rosh Kulam" (Amos 9:1) is similar, but it is Po'el Yotzei (it acts on others) - cutting off. This army is unlike other enemies - you stop them from coming against you with a sword. These camp on swords, and they are not cut, because they are so fast.

3.

Malbim: Also after they ascend on the wall and cast themselves down from there to the city, even though [the enemy] stands below with swords and daggers, they must fall past the dagger, lest they be wounded and harmed.
