*********************GIRSA SECTION*********************

We recommend using the textual changes suggested by the Bach and the marginal notes of the Vilna Shas. This section is devoted to any OTHER important corrections that Acharonim have pointed out in the Gemara, Rashi and Tosfos.

[1] Rashi 21a DH Tana Kama Is Lei (at the end) : "

The words "Iy Hachi, Nami Mishkachas Lah"

should be "Iy Hachi, Hachi Nami Mishkachas Lah" ,

[2] Rashi 21a DH Nichnasim " :

1)[line 2] B'SOCH SHENASAH- According to the first and third explanations of Rashi, this means that an animal that had a discharge of blood will not give birth within a year of that discharge. Accordingly, it certainly will not give birth within a year of its own birth, since its own birth affects it no less than a discharge.

2)[line 6] IKA BEINAIHU D'ZE'IRI- they argue with regard to Ze'iri's statement (Ze'iri said (20a) that an animal will not become pregnant less than 30 days after Tinuf (or a proper birth)). See Chart.

3)[last line] MECHUSAR ZEMAN

It is forbidden to offer an animal as a sacrifice before it is eight days old, as the verse states, "Shor O Chesev O Ez Ki Yivaled, v'Hayah Shiv'as Yamim Tachas Imo, umi'Yom ha'Shemini va'Hal'ah Yeratzeh l'Korban Isheh la'Sh-m" - "A bull or a sheep or a goat that is born, it shall be under [the care of] its mother for seven days, and on the eighth day and onward it will be acceptable as a fire-offering to HaSh-m" (Vayikra 22:27). An animal that is less than eight days old is called "Mechusar Zeman," since time must pass before it can be offered as a Korban. (See Background to Chulin 38:15.)

4)[line 7] GO'EL MUM TEMURAS ACHILAH - These are the four ways in which Ma'aser Behemah and Bechor are similar (to the exclusion of all other types of Kodshim):

1.GO'EL - they are not redeemed when they have a Mum. With regard to Ma'aser the Torah says, "Lo Yiga'el" (Vayikra 27:33), and with regard to Bechor the Torah says, "Lo Sifdeh" (Bamidbar 18:17).

2.MUM - they attain full Kedushah even though the animal had a blemish at the time it became Kadosh.

3.TEMURAS - animals with which they are exchanged are not offered on the Mizbe'ach.

4.ACHILAH - they are eaten when they have a Mum (and are not first redeemed like other Kodshim).

5)[line 8] ZACHAR KADOSH B'MATANOS PASHUT - These are the four ways in which Ma'aser Behemah and other Kodshim are similar (to the exclusion of Bechor):

1.ZACHAR - they do not apply only to male animals.

2.KADOSH - they have to be sanctified (in contrast, a Bechor is automatically sanctified at birth).

3.B'MATANOS - they are not among the priestly gifts.

4.PASHUT - they apply to all offspring of an animal, and not only to the firstborn.

6)[line 11] " "KED'AMREI RA'AVASA D'TZALTA "ATZAR CHAYUSA"- like the shepherds of Tzalta say, "The womb contracted" (and consequently destroyed the fetus)

7)[line 12] BA'ABU'EI D'DAMA- bubbles (globules) of blood

8)[line 30] SHE'SHAF'AH CHARARAS DAM- that discharged a [large] clot of blood
