Question (R. Yirmiyah): If the gentile hired the Jew to break barrels of Yayin Nesech, are the wages permitted (because he is destroying Yayin Nesech)?

Answer: The wages are nevertheless prohibited.

(Asi): If a gentile sold Yayin Nesech, the money is prohibited as it took on the status of an actual idol.

If a gentile sold an idol, R. Yonasan said that the money is permitted (as the pasuk that prohibits it (Devarim 7:26) refers specifically to Jews); R. Yochanan said that it is prohibited (like the idol itself).

Each of these two views can be supported by a Baraisa...

(Baraisa supporting R. Yochanan): If a gentile owed money to a Jew, he cannot tell the Jew, "Wait until I will sell some Yayin Nesech (and I will pay you back with the proceeds)" or "Wait until I will sell an idol and I will pay you". (This is a question against R. Yonasan.)

Answer: The prohibition is only because of Maris HaAyin, that it appears as if he sent the gentile as his messenger to sell his idol). (Note: Many commentators exchange the phrases at the end of this entry and the entry below (2. i.), as adjusted here.)
