What are the connotations of "ve'Lo Yavo'u Lir'os"?

Rashi (in Yoma, 54a) and Targum Onkelos: It means that they (the B'nei K'has) should not enter the Mishkan to watch the Kohanim dismantling it and covering the Keilim.

Sefrono: It means that they should not see when the Kohanim dismantle the Mishkan and cover the Keilim. 1

Targum Yonasan: It means 'They shall not come and be seen ... '.

What is the meaning of "ke'Vala es ha'Kodesh"?

Rashi and Ramban #1 (citing Targum Onkelos) and Targum Yonasan: It means "when they come to cover the holy vessels by placing them into their respective bags. 1

Ramban #2: It is a La'av against stealing a holy vessel, which is punishable by Misah bi'Yedei Shamayim and is subject to 'Kana'im Pog'in bo' (a zealot who catches him in the act is permitted to kill him on the spot). 2

Ramban #3 (according to Kabalah): It means when the Shechinah is absorbed into the Kodesh Kodshim in Heaven. 3

Ramban #4 and Rashbam: It means "when they come to dismantle the Heichal 4 (and the Kavod of Hashem is revealed)", 5 as we find above in Pasuk 5, where Aharon and his sons entered the Heichal and proceeded to cover the Keilim before the B'nei K'has were allowed in.

Why would merely seeing the holy vessels being covered cause the B'nei K'has' to die?

Ramban #1 (citing Ibn Ezra): Because anyone who looks at the Aron 1 is Chayav Misah. 2

Ramban #2 and Rashbam: Because when they covered them, the Shechinah appeared and anyone who looks at the Shechinah is Chayav Misah. 3

Accordng to the Yerushalmi in Bikurim, 2:1, the current Takanah was to prevent the B'nei K'has from 'feasting their eyes on the interior of the Kodesh Kodshim'.

Ramban (Ibid.): As we find by the men of Beis-Shemesh in Shmuel 1, 6:19. Oznayim la'Torah: Aharon and his sons were permitted to see the Aron - and even to touch it as they were preparing it for the B'nei K'has to come and carry it, like the craftsmen - preferably Kohanim, who were allowed to enter the Heichal and the Kodesh Kodshim for repairs when necessary - See Oznayim la'Torah.
