What is "Pnei Hashem"?

Rav Sadya Gaon: Hashem's anger. Ibn Ezra - it is called Pnei, for anger is seen on the face, like "u'Faneha Lo Hayu Lah Od" (Shmuel I, 1:18). Rid - it is like "v'Nasati Fanai" (Vayikra 17:10).

Ibn Ezra, Ri Kara: Hashem divided them among the lands, and will not look at them any more. [Lehabitam is like Lehabit Aleihem,] just like "va'Yiz'akucha" (Nechemyah 9:28 is like va'Yiz'aku Elecha).

Rid: He hid them from in front of Him.

Palgei Mayim: The Nevi'im and Kohanim who caused Yisrael to sin, Hashem separated them from Klal Yisrael. He will not look at them any more.

Is "Pnei Kohanim Lo Nasa'u" connected to what came before?

Rav Sadya Gaon: Yes. Because they hold that Hashem will not see them again, they did not favor the Kohanim.

Rashi: Yes. Refer to 4:16:1:2.

Ibn Ezra: Yes. Because Hashem will not look at them again, they were not afraid to take vengeance 1 against Kohanim and Chachamim.
