Why will they cast out their money?

1.

Gitin 56a: The richest woman in Yerushalayim sent her servant to buy flour or bread, but it was sold out.

When she was dying, she threw all her money into the street and said 'what good will it do for me?!'

1

Radak #1: This refers to their idols of silver and gold - "ba'Yom ha'Hu Yashlich ha'Adam Es Elilei Kaspo v'Es Elilei Zehavo" (Yeshayah 2:20), when they saw that the idols do not help and did not save them or satiate them at a time of hunger.

2

Radak #2: This refers to their storehouses of silver and gold. They will not help to save them from hunger or the enemy. Therefore, they will cast them out in the markets and streets- "Nafsham Lo Yesabe'u." One cannot fill the innards with silver and gold like one can with bread. If there is no food, what do the silver and gold help them?! Will they eat it?!

3

Malbim: They cannot carry it to Galus.

4

Malbim (22): The enemy plundered everything.

2)

How will their gold be like a Nidah?

1.

Rashi: They will detest it.

2.

Radak: They will distance it. Refer to 7:19:1:2-3.

3.

Malbim: Also their gold that they will not cast out, it will be like a Nidah - they will kill one who has gold 1 .

1

Perhaps this is like a Nidah, for it is a great pitfall for them. (PF)

3)

Why does it say both "Nafsham Lo Yesabe'u" and "u'Me'eihem Lo Yemale'u"?

1.

Malbim: Filling the innards is less than satiation. (Also this they cannot do!)

4)

What was "Michshol Avonam"?

1.

Radak: This entire stumbling block was due to their sin.

2.

Malbim: Via their great gold and silver they stumbled in sins - "v'Chesef Hirbeisi Lah v'Zahav Asu la'Ba'al" (Hoshe'a 2:10).
