What is the meaning of "v'Ra'u Kevasim k'Davram"?

1.

Pesachim 68a: In the future, Tzadikim will revive the dead. It says "v'Ra'u Kevasim k'Davram," and it says "Yir'u Vashan v'Gil'ad ki'Mei Olam" (alluding to two who revived the dead). "Vashan" refers to Elisha, who was from Bashan. It says "v'Yanai v'Shofot ba'Bashan" and "... Po Elisha ben Shofot".

"V'Gil'ad" refers to Eliyahu - "Eliyahu ha'Tishbi mi'Yoshvei Gil'ad."

1

Rashi: This refers to Tzadikim, who are compared to a flock of sheep. "K'Davram" is like they conduct straightly; they organize their matters properly, like these sheep 2

.

3

Rashi (citing Pesachim 68a): Like was said about them - consolations said to them.

4

Radak: This is a metaphor for the Tzadikim and weak people. Before this, the Resha'im expelled them from their houses. When the Resha'im are eradicated, the poor will eat what the Resha'im ate. This was in the days of Chizkiyah, who was a righteous king and truthful judge. In his days, the strong could not oppress the weak. Most of Yisrael died or were exiled in his days. "K'Davram" is like their conduct; the Targum of "va'Yinhag" (Shemos 3:1) is v'Dabar. I.e. no one forces them.

5

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: Tzadikim will be financed like was said 6

about them - they will consume the property of the Resha'im.

7

Malbim: The verse depicts [the nation] like two lambs. One of them is used to grazing in grassy places. The other was fattened at the feeding trough. At a time of hunger, the feeding trough is empty. There is no food for the fattened animal; it dies of hunger. The thin sheep finds its food in the Midbar - "v'Ra'u Kevasim k'Davram."

2)

What are "Charvos Mechim"?

1.

Rashi: They are the houses of Resha'im - they are fat. This is like "Olos Mechim A'aleh" (Tehilim 66:15).

2.

Radak: They are the ruins of the fat with Mo'ach (marrow not hollow). This refers to the rich, who oppressed the poor. Their houses will be desolate.

3.

Malbim: The dryness that dries the marrow in bones of fattened animals, it will consume and destroy the bone. The fattened animals are used to fat food, and now they lack it. The marrow will cease, and also the bones will cease. The Nimshal is, after they will return to do Mishpat and Tzedakah and not steal from each other, those who are used to financing themselves from their toil will find their income and 'graze' normally. Those who are used to financing themselves from theft, now their fat bones will be desolate, for they cannot find livelihood.

3)

What is the meaning of "Garim Yochelu"?

1.

Rashi: The Tzadikim, who are like strangers, consume them.

2.

Radak: The poor, who fled their houses due to the rich, will come to live in them and eat their portion.
