What is the meaning of "Kinenah"?

Rashi: [It made a nest,] like "Kan Tzipor" (Devarim 22:6).

What is "Kipoz"?

Rashi: This is Kipod. (Refer to 34:11:2:1-4).

Malbim: This is the peacock. It is beautiful due to the color of its feathers. People used to say myths about them - they do not have legs, and they do not make nests. It lays eggs and chicks come out in the air, via the male, which nests on them, so people will not see them 1 . The verse depicts that this bird, which [people say that it] dwells in the air to distance from people, it will dwell on the ground, for no people will be near.

Malbim: These myths developed because they nest on top of tall trees, very far from people.

What is the meaning of "va'Temalet"?

Rashi: It will lay an egg. Radak - this is like "v'Himlitah Zachar" (66:7).

What is "u'Vak'ah"?

Rashi: This is emergence of the chick from the egg - "Beitzei Tzif'oni Bik'u" (59:5).

What is "v'Dagrah"?

1.

Rashi: This is a bird calling. It clucks in its throat to draw chicks after it. This is like "Korei Dagar" (Yirmeyah 17:11).

Radak: This is like "Korei Dagar" - gathering, i.e. of eggs. The prefix Vov in v'Dagrah means after - after it gathered the eggs and warmed them, afterwards the chicks cleaved the eggs and emerged. This is like the Vov in "va'Yivak'u ha'Mayim" (Shemos 14:21) "Atah Katzafta v'Necheta" (below, 64:4; after we sinned, You became angry).

Malbim: The female itself will hatch the eggs, and not the male (like is standard - refer to 34:15:2:2).

What are "Dayos"?

Rashi: They are vultures. Radak - this is "veha'Dayah" (Devarim 14:13).

Malbim: It is from many species, big and small. It nests in hot lands on mountain peaks where people do not pass. Now they will be on the [desolate] land.

Why does it say "Ishah Re'usah"?

Rashi: This is like El Re'usah (one gathers to another).

Radak: This is like Im Re'usah.

Malbim: They will gather, until all the species will be there.
