What do we learn from "mi'Kenaf ha'Aretz Zmiros Shamanu"?

1.

Sanhedrin 37b: From the day that the earth opened its mouth to swallow Hevel's blood, it did not open it again 1 . We hear from the corner of the earth, but not from the mouth

2.

Sanhedrin 94a: Hashem wanted to make Chizkiyah Mashi'ach, and Sancheriv would be Gog and Magog. Midas ha'Din protested that Chizkiyah did not sing Shirah over the miracles done for him. The land said, I will sing Shirah in place of him, and You can make him Mashi'ach!

3.

Targum Yonasan: From the Beis ha'Mikdash. Rashi - it is at the east end of Eretz Yisrael, like we learned (Ma'aser Sheni 5:2) '[within a one day journey from Yerushalayim... until the Yarden in the east. It is a one day journey from Yerushalayim to the Yarden 2 .

4.

Rashi: We heard in back of the curtain (above; decrees of Shamayim are heard there) that in the future, they will raise songs from the corner of the land. The songs are "Tzvi la'Tzadik." In the future, there will be revival of Tzadikim.

5.

Radak: This Parashah discusses the future, like the previous one. Kenaf ha'Aretz is the end of the land, like "Le'echoz b'Kanfos ha'Aretz" (Iyov 38:13). I.e. these tidings came from afar. It says Shamanu because also other Nevi'im in Yeshayah's time prophesized about this.

6.

Malbim: This is a Ma'amar Musgar (parenthetical comment). We heard these songs from the ends of the land - from Yisraelim cast off there.

1

37b: I.e. for good. It opened its mouth for evil -"va'Tiftach ha'Aretz Es Piha" (Bamidbar 16:32, to swallow the families of Korach, Dasan and Aviram)!

2

Rashi (Bamidbar 13:25): Eretz Yisrael is 400 Parsah (a 40-day journey) by 400 Parsah (refer to Bamidbar 13:25:152:1-2 and the note there). If so, Yerushalayim is very close to the eastern end. (PF) According to current maps, it is about 33 kilometers west of the Yarden, and 57 kilometers east of the Mediterranean Sea.

2)

What do we learn from "Tzvi la'Tzadik"?

1.

Sanhedrin 94a: The angel appointed over the world asked Hashem to do the Tzivyon (desire 1 ) of the Tzadik (Chizkiyah). A Bas Kol said 'Razi Li" (it is My secret why he will not be Mashi'ach).

2.

Radak: These songs that we heard are for a Tzadik. He is proper to delight in them, and they are songs for him, like it says "ba'Yom ha'Hu Yihyeh Tzemach Hashem li'Tzvi ul'Chavod" (4:2). For whom will this be? For the remnant of Yisrael, i.e. the Tzadikim. It says also "v'Hayah ha'Nish'ar b'Tziyon veha'Nosar bi'Yrushalayim" (4:3).

3.

Malbim: "Zmiros Shamanu" applies also to this. They will sing desired glorious songs for the Tzadik Chizkiyah; the salvation will be in his merit.

1

Radak: This is like "Tzvi Hi l'Chol ha'Aratzos" (Yechezkel 2:6, 15).

3)

What is the meaning of "va'Omer Razi Li"?

1.

Refer to 24:16:2:1.

2.

Rashi: Woe to me, that two secrets were revealed to me - of punishments and of salvation. Radak - this is like Yonason translates Razi to be 'my Raz (secret)', like "v'Chol Raz Lo Anis Lach" (Daniel 4:6).

3.

Radak #1: It is as if the Navi said, when I saw the punishment that will come on Yisrael at the time of the Ge'ulah, and they will be refined, and only the Tzadikim will remain, Razon Li - as if the fat of my flesh will become lean due to this.

4.

Radak #2: Woe to me. The Yud in Razi is part of the root (it is not the suffix 'mine'). Therefore, the accent should be on the last syllable; it was moved back [to avoid consecutive accented syllables]; the next word has only one syllable.

5.

Malbim: Other secrets were revealed to me. This salvation will not be permanent; other afflictions will come upon the Am Kadosh. They will drown in the stormy water of Bavel, Paras and Madai and other exiles, for Yisrael will continue to sin.

4)

Why does it say "Bogedim Bagadu u'Veged Bogedim Bagadu"?

1.

Sanhedrin 94a: Yeshayah lamented 'Woe to me. When will Mashi'ach come"? A Bas Kol said "Bogedim Bagadu..." (until enemies will come - looters after looters, plunderers after plunderers).

2.

Rashi: Five betrayals are mentioned.

3.

Radak #1: There are many traitors [in Yisrael], and all of them will perish.

4.

Radak #2: Many traitors will betray them.

5.

Radak #3: It is a hint to the four kingdoms (that will subjugate Yisrael - Bavel are Bogedim; Paras and Madai Bagadu (betrayed) [Bavel]; u'Veged Bogedim (Paras and Madai), Yavan and Edom Bagadu (betrayed) them.

6.

Malbim: Others betrayed Hashem after Chizkiyah, e.g. Menasheh, Yehoyakim and his colleagues. Veged Bogedim is a great betrayal, like putting an idol in the Heichal. It is the ultimate betrayal!
