Radak: Initially he fled to Kir Charases. He thought to take refuge there. When he saw that the war was overpowering him 1 , he tried to break through to Melech Edom.

Malbim: The war was overpowering him, i.e. he cannot defeat them from the wall, and they will conquer the wall. (PF)

Why does it say "Chazak (masculine) Mimenu ha'Milchamah"?

Radak: Davar (the matter of the) Milchamah was overpowering him.

Why did he try to get to Melech Edom?

Radak: Perhaps Melech Edom was closer to the city than the other two kings.

2.

Malbim: He was weaker [than the others]; he wanted to seize him.
