Why does it say "Lachen"?
Rashi: Due to the above, [the following punishment] will be for you.
What is the meaning of "ke'Echol Kash Leshon Esh"?
Sotah 41b: Flatterers ("ha'Omerim la'Ra Tov vela'Tov Ra" - 20) will fall to Gehinom.
Rashi: Like fire consumes straw. Radak - normally, the subject (that acts) precedes the object. When it is clear and one cannot err, the object [can] come first. It is known that fire consumes straw, and not vice-versa 1 ! "Leshon Esh" is the flame; it has the shape of a tongue.
Radak citing Eichah Rabah (Pesichah 2): Does straw consume fire?! Rather, Kash refers to Esav. Whenever Yisrael, who are fire, slacken from Mitzvos, Esav, who is straw, rules over them.
Malbim: Straw is the root of the sheave. Fire makes it rot, but it does not become dust. The ash remains in its place. Also here, the punishment will reach only the root (the sinner), but not to the flower, i.e. the children.
Radak: The same applies to "Mayim Tav'ah Esh" (64:1), "Avanim Sachaku Mayim" (Iyov 14:19).
What is "va'Chashash"?
Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: Amira. This is the straw of sheaves. They will be like straw, that the fire burns it to ashes.
Radak: It is fine straw. The matter is repeated in different words.
Malbim: It is the top of the flower of the sheave.
What is the meaning of "Yirpeh"?
Radak: The flame will weaken the straw and burn it. Just like a flame quickly consumes straw and weakens fine straw, so the evil will come on them quickly and eradicate them, to the point that the roots will be like Mak (refer to 5:24:5:2).
Radak citing Eichah Rabah (Pesichah 20): It is slackening [from Mitzvos. Refer to 5:24:2:3].
What is "ka'Mak"?
Rashi: It is like something that rots.
Radak: It is like Mekak (corrosion) of Soferim (Shabbos 90a). Their root, i.e. the strongest part, will rot and melt.
What is "Pircham", and what will happen to it?
Rashi: It is their growth. It will depart, like wind removes dust.
Radak: This is a Mashal for the weak ones. Just like dust, because it is so light, it rises in the air and is finished off, so all of them will be finished, the evil strong and weak ones.
Malbim: It is their offspring.
Why does it say "Ma'asu
Radak: The matter is repeated in different words.
Malbim: Ni'atzu refers to [despising] Nevu'ah. This is worse than despising Toras Hashem. (a) Mi'us is in the heart; Ni'utz is verbal. (b) Nevu'ah is more severe, for it has special punishments and warnings. For this, the Chashash that is consumed becomes like dust, that the wind carries it. It is totally nullified from existence.
