What is the meaning of "Hafnu"?

1.

Rashi: Eradicate from this place. This is like "u'Finu Es ha'Bayis" (Vayikra 14:36). Nusu, Hafnu and Hemiku are all commands 1 .

2.

Radak: The verse tells them to flee, for the enemy deeply cleared out [in order] to settle in your land, and expel you and exile you.

3.

Radak citing his father: When they said 'Nusu', they cleared out and fled deeply, and strengthened their [new] place of dwelling, so the enemy would not catch them.

4.

Malbim: Bnei Dedan fled and cleared out deeply (went far), and Edom chased after them.

1

Radak: Hafnu cannot be a command, for we do not find a command in which the one who does it is not mentioned. Also, Hemiku is past tense. If it were a command, there would be a Patach under the Hei!

2)

Who dwells in Dedan?

1.

Radak: Dedan is from Edom, like it says "u'Dedaneh ba'Cherev Yipolu" (Yechezkel 25:13).

3)

Why does it say "Ed Esav Heveisi Alav"?

1.

Malbim: The enemy came and captured Edom when the warriors [of Edom] were not there. This is because I put in the hearts of Bnei Dedan to flee, and Bnei Esav will chase them. It is called Ed Esav, for it was designated for him based on nature and the Ma'arachah.

4)

What is "Es Pekadtiv"?

1.

Malbim: It is the time designated for his downfall based on Hashgachah, and retribution for his sins.
