BLANKETS, TIGHTS AND SHOES (Yerushalmi Kilayim Perek 9 Halachah 4 Daf 43a)

(Mishnah): Thin and thick blankets (made from wool), tights and shoes made from scraps of wool may not be worn until they are checked (for any linen content).

(R. Yosi): Those coming from the coast and from overseas do not need to be checked, as they can be assumed to be made from Kanbus. A wool-lined boot does not have a prohibition of Shaatnez (as linen is not used).

(Gemara): Borasin (thin blankets) are known as Barei; Bardasim (thick blankets) are known as Dilma; Dalmatikion (tights) are known as Kovlin and Ma'aforin; Minalos Hapinun (shoes from scraps of wool) are known as Dardasin.

Question: (The Mishnah taught that) R. Yosi said that those coming from the coast (and) from overseas do not need to be checked. Does this mean from the coast and from overseas or from the coast overseas?

Answer: From the Baraisa that teaches - for example, from Tzur and its neighbors and from Kisarin and its neighbors, this shows that it means specifically from the coast overseas.

In the Mishnah, R. Yosi taught that they do not need checking. This applied in earlier times, when linen wasn't common in all places, but now that it is, they must all be checked.

R. Yosi also taught that a wool-lined boot (does not have a prohibition of Shaatnez). In some places, they do line it with wool and stitch it with linen. It's like the story of R. Zeira who instructed R. Abba bar Zevina to instruct 'Bar Rishon' (the shoemaker) not to stitch his shoes with linen, but rather to use leather straps.

But R. Zeira agreed that one may use a wool belt on a linen garment since it is possible to remove the garment without taking off the belt. (Chazal prohibited wearing wool on top of linen (or vice-versa) when it is impossible to remove the lower garment without fully removing the upper one.)

Question (to R. Ila): Is it permitted to stitch a wool-lined shoe with linen?

Answer (R. Ila): Just because R. Zeira prohibited it, must I also? I say that it is permitted, since one could remove the lining (by pulling through a hole there), so it is not called connected to the shoe.

R. Ila agrees that one may not wear wool socks on top of linen socks since one cannot remove the lower one without removing the upper one.
