Ravina's version of Ameimar is that we hold the first batch of a tereifah's eggs in abeyance. If she again produces, they are permitted. If not, they are forbidden. Does the second batch have to be fertilized eggs (to show she can reproduce and is therefore not a tereifah) or do unfertilized eggs count?

The Shach (Y.D. 86:25) seems to imply that as long as the eggs are carried and born, the fertilization is inconsequential (see Pischei Teshuvah (Y.D.57:21) who says that there are opinions that even the sign that the chicken carries eggs is enough).
