DAF DISCUSSIONS - MENACHOS 43

HG schild asked:

Brachos were set by the Anshei Knesses HaGAdol. So what 100 brachos..nusach did David make? MOshe? Does anyone say they did not say Brachos during the first Temple etc?

The Kollel replies:

The official Nusach (wording) of the B'rachos was instituted by the Anshei K'nesses Ha'Geolah, as was the order of the B'rachos (what to recite over what, and when to recite it). However, the concept of B'rachos stems from the Torah - in this week's Parshah, where the Torah writes (8:10) "and you shall eat ... and you shall bless Hash-m ... ". We also know for example, that the Avos Davenned (even though the wording may have differed dramatically from ours). So it is clear that B'rachos were being recitedlong before the times of the Anshei K'nesses ha'Gedolah. Consequently, we must say that what David ha'Melech instituted was that one should make a point of reciting a hundred B'rachos a day, irrespective of the text.
