DAF DISCUSSIONS - BAVA METZIA 21

M.BOEHM asked:

THE FIRST 2 RASHIS ON THE MISHNAH SEEM REPETITIVE-ARE THEY OR ARE THEY TELLING ME 2 SEPARATE THINGS?

THE END OF THE 2ND RASHI SAYS "AND THIS IS THE REASON FOR ALL OF THEM"-AIII BUT THE FIRST CASE COULD HAVE A SIMAN RATHER IT IS AN AVEIDA MIDAS-HE KNOWINGLY LEFT IT THERE AND THAT'S WHY YOU CAN KEEP IT?

M.BOEHM, W.H.,CT.,USA

The Kollel replies:

Dear M. Boehm,

You're learning well! Rav Arye Leib Tzintz in his "Mayonei Hachochma" explains as you suggested. The first case is different from the rest of the mishna.
