DAF DISCUSSIONS - KIDUSHIN 74

Avrahom asks:

I am having difficulty with the scenario of identifying a bechor outside a scenario of monozygotic identical twins.

I don't understand a situation with one wife, or even multiple pre Rabbeinu Gershon how their could be confusion who the bechor is? Being that it's referencing yerusha, pidyon habein, and Peter Rechem are not a factor either.

My problem with Tosafos is that if it's the father avoiding embarrassing possible Mamzeirim because the Midwife is believed at sheas leidah and the mother for the first week.

B. How is the mother able to testify that the child is his first born? Wouldn't she only be aware if it's the first child she had with this man?

I'm trying to understand what the scenario is, and unlike the Amud before it doesn't specify that we were dealing with multiple women giving birth in the same room.

The Kollel replies:

Dear Avraham,

According to R' Yehuda he can say and is believed both ways. (Rambam Isurei Biah 15:16).

He testifies about his Bechor the way he wants.

As far as Yerushah, every thing is the same even if the father is a Kohen and the son is a Chalal.

All the best,
