In relation to the previous question regarding Tu'mas Eretz Ha'amim, the
Gemara (54b) brings a proof from the Mishnah (ibid.) that the reason for the
tu'mah is "mi-shum gusha", because if not, why do we need ha'za'ah 3 + 7...
If it is mi-shum gusha, do we need to wait seven days, or is it only a 1 day tu'mah?
If it is mi-shum avira, do we need to wait seven days, or is it only a 1 day tu'mah?
In other words, is the Gemara's question only based on the concept of
ha'za'ah, or is it really more of a general problem of the tu'mah lasting 7
days, which is always indicitive of tu'mas meis, and always requires ha'za'ah??

As you said, any Tum'as Mes (which lasts for seven days) needs Haza'ah and any which is merely a Tum'as Erev does not need Haza'ah. The Gemara assumes that "Mishum Gusha" -- that there might be a Mes beneath the ground -- is a bonafide fear, and therefore the Tum'ah it would cause must be a seven-day Tum'ah. In contrast, "Mishum Avira" involved a new Gezeirah (to prevent people from going to Eretz ha'Amim) and therefore it did not necessitate a Tum'ah of seven days.
