If I understand you correctly you are asking how Rav Kahana was able to consider the seven rows like seven years. Maharsha writes that Rav Kahana understood that Rav's intention was that he should act with humility as if he was a young student without experience. By having been placed in the last row, where the young students sat, he had achieved the desired result.
