Was his name Cohen or was his name Rav and he was a Cohen or did they call him Rav Cohen because he was a Cohen but he really had a different name ....

Please notice- Rav Halperin in his Atlas Etz Chaim lists 5 different Amoraim called Rav Cahana and also 16 additional Rav Cahana with different father's names.
By us- based on Pesachim 49a, where Rav Cahana says that he was punished with exile because he married a Bas-Cohen, Tosfos Chulin 132a DH Rav Cahana says Rav Cahana was not a Cohen himself (but no one explains if Cahana was his private name or because of his wife). Many say that there was a different Rav Cahana who was a Cohen- see Kidushin 8a and Tosfos there DH Rav Cahana.
