DAF DISCUSSIONS - PESACHIM 112

Avraham asks:

Hi,

At the end of 112a, Rebbi Akiva gives advice not to marry a divorcee in case she thinks of her previous husband in intimacy. The gemorah then says that it is also not advisable to marry a "widow" as she may have preferred intimacy with her previous husband and come to be mezalzel her current husband.

Why would Rebbi Akiva give such advice? Is this not unfair to divorcee women and widows? Are we not instructed to be kind to widows? Who in their right mind would want to marry a divorcee or a widow after reading this advice from Rebbi Akiva? Who would want to put themselves in such a potentially disastrous position?

Furthermore, if Rebbi Akiva is just giving an eitza tovah based on the metzios of the world, why would Hash-m make this the metzios and disadvantage divorcees and widows from getting remarried?

Thank you for your time!

Avraham, Jerusalem
