the g'mera is trying to prove which month the world was created based on when fruits become ripe in the times of the g'mera or when the rains come because of posukim in berashit. my question is that after the mabul- seasons changed. according to S'forno there was only one season before the mabul- so how can we bring proofs as to which month the world was created based on todays seasons ?
JOEL ZACKS, jerusalem, israel
While I would say that this is more of a question on the Seforno than a question on the Gemara, I believe one may explain this even according to the Seforno. Since the Torah was given to Bnei Yisrael long after the seasonal pattern had taken hold and was here to stay, if the Torah states that the creation took place in a way that fits a certain season (and it did not have to state the verse in this manner, as Rashi says clearly is the case here), it must be for us to figure out important information from that verse in a fashion that is relative to the seasons in our world (and for the vast majority of history). This information may be regarding when the world was created.
All the best,
Yaakov Montrose
