DAF DISCUSSIONS - MEGILAH 15

Aryeh asked:

In your excellent Daf Insights you write that the Vilna Gaon zt'l wrote "had I been there, I would have added another reason why she invited him." - that she wished to pgam Ahashwerosh and Haman through sitting between them as a niddah. I don't fully understand this excellent chiddush of the Gaon. Firstly, the dvar Torah says that Esther HaMalka intended to pgam them by sitting inbetween them. Yet the proof given refers to a niddah walking inbetween men. Is sitting the same as walking? Secondly, it seems that the Gaon's chiddush does not fit the view in the Gemara that when Esther HaMalka was shocked she did not become a niddah - rather her bowels moved. Since Eliyahu says that Esther had in mind the views of all the Tannaiim and Amoraim why does the Gaon think that his chiddush would have been accepted as one of her reasons even though it does not fit the Tanna/Amora who holds that Esther HaMalka was not a niddah.

Aryeh, Beit Shemesh

The Kollel replies:

(a) The Gemara (Pesachim 111a) says that a Nidah causes danger by "being between" the men. It appears that she doesn't have to be moving.

(b) Both can be true - she bled and her bowels moved. There is no need for them to argue; va'Tischalchal implies every type of movement inside the body.

Be well,
