1)

Why did Yaakov remain silent until his sons returned from shepherding the flocks?

1.

Seforno: He delayed feuding until they returned and became aware of what happened, 1 so they would be able to guard themselves against their opponents.

2.

Malbim: Had he heard [that Shechem took her] before he defiled her, Yaakov would have been Moser Nefesh to save her. Since he heard after she was defiled, there was no gain to rush. Ha'amek Davar - Had he screamed initially, Shechem and Chamor would not have accepted their words!

Refer to 34:5:3:1

2)

What is the connection between Yaakov's sons shepherding the flocks and the fact that Dinah was defiled?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah: Had Leah looked after Dinah in the same way that Yaakov's sons looked after the sheep, 1 this incident would not have occurred. 2

1

See Oznayim la'Torah, who bases this on the Derashah of a Maggid.

2

Oznayim la'Torah: Perhaps this is the reason that the Torah places some of the blame on Leah, referring to Dinah as "Bas Leah."

3)

Why does the Torah add the words "Ad Bo'am," seeing as also afterwards, Yaakov did not anything about the incident?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah #1: This supports the opinion (in 34:7) 1 that reads the word "k'Shom'am" together with "va'Yis'atzevu ha'Anashim" - since that is what Yaakov waited to tell them until they returned from the field.

2.

Oznayim la'Torah #2: "Ki Nevalah Asah b'Yisrael... " was said by Yaakov, or he simply handed over the issue to his sons to handle. 2

1

Refer to 34:7:151:1*.

2

Oznayim la'Torah: Which explains why, in 34:8, Chamor ended up speaking with the sons, even though, in 34:6, he had set out to speak with Yaakov.
