Why did Hashem instruct Moshe to see the land before he died?

Rashi (in Pasuk 52): Because Hashem knew how precious the land was in his eyes'.

Da'as Zekenim and Hadar Zekenim (both in Pasuk 52) and Rosh (in Pasuk 44): Because He could not grant his request to enter, so at least He granted his request to see it, in order not to turn him away empty-handed.
