Why does the Torah need to inform us that Moshe told Yisrael what Hashem commanded him?

1.

Rashi and R. Bachye: To teach us the loyalty of Moshe, who knew that his death would follow the battle against Midyan, yet the moment Hashem commanded him to attack Midyan, he mobilized the troops with Simchah without the least delay. 1

1

In contrast to Yehoshua, who prolonged fighting the Cana?anim in order to extend his life-span, as a result of which his life-spand was curtailed. See R. Bachye.

2)

What are the connotations of "Hechaltzu me'Itchem"?

1.

Rashi (citing Targum Onkelos and Targum Yonasan: It means 'Arm yourselves!' 1

2.

Yevamos, 102b: It means 'Leave your houses to go to war'. 2

1

Rashi: As in Pasuk 5. (See also from Shevi'i in this Parshah). And "Chalutzei Tzava" in Pasuk 5 means 'armed troops'.

2

See Torah Temimah, note 5.

3)

Why does the Torah insert the word "Heichaltzu ? Anashim la'Tzava" (See Sifsei Chachamim)?

1.

Rashi: "Anashim" implies Tzadikim. 1

1

Rashi: Like we find in Beshalach Sh'mos, 17:9 and in Devarim, 1:16. See also Targum Yonasan in Pasuk 5.

4)

Seeing as in the previous Pasuk, Hashem told Moshe "Nikmas B'nei Yisrael", why does Moshe refer to it as "Nikmas Hashem"?

1.

Rashi: Because when someone attacks Yisrael, it is as if he attacked Hashem.

2.

R. Bachye (citing the Tanchuma) and Oznayim la'Torah: Because (in fact, Midyan sinned against Hashem (by causing Yisrael to sin) and against Yisrael - since as a result of their actions, twenty-four thousand people died 1 - Consequently - Oznayim la?Torah), due to His love of Yisrael, Hashem attributed the revenge to their defiled honor, whilst Moshe, due to his love of Hashem, 2

3.

Targum Onkelos and Targum Yonasan: "Nikmas Hashem" means 'the vengeance of the people of Hashem'.

4.

Hadar Zekenim (citing the B'chor Shor): Because the nations hate Yisrael only because they are the people of Hashem.

1

See also R. Bachye.

2

Oznayim la'Torah: Similar to the Gemara in B'rachos, 7a, which teaches us that, whereas our Tefilin contain the Pasuk "Sh'ma Yisrael ... ", Hashem's Tefilin contain the Pasuk "u'Mi ke'Amcha Yisrael Goy Echad ba'Aretz".
