What is the significance of "va'Albishech Rikmah"?
Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: I clothed you with clothing with pictures, from the dearest [possessions] of your haters.
Rashi (13) and Radak, from Tanchuma Terumah 5: Do not think that you bestow [amidst free Chesed] 13 materials that you separated for Me [to build the Mishkan]. They correspond to 13 things that I did for you in Egypt - "va'Albishech Rikmah?" [Even so,] I consider that you bestow on Me [free Chesed], like David said "Ashirah la'Shem Ki Gamal Alai" (Tehilim 13:6). In the world to come, I will pay you corresponding to the 13 ? "u'Vara Hashem Al Kol Mechon Har Tziyon v'Al Mikra'eha Anan Yomam v'Ashan v'Nogah Esh Lehavah Laylah Ki Al Kol Kavod Chuupah; v'Sukah Tihyeh l'Tzel Yomam me'Chorev ul'Machseh ul'Mistor mi'Zerem umi'Matar" (Yeshayah 4:5-6)
Radak (9): All of this is a metaphor for the great good that they had in the Midbar, in food and drink, clothing and shoes ? "Simlasecha Lo Valsah me'Alecha v'Raglecha Lo Vatzekah Zeh Arba'im Shanah" (Devarim 8:4).
Malbim: Our verse mentions four matters corresponding to Bigdei Kehunah. The Kesones, the Beged Tachton 1 , was Rikmah 2 .
Malbim (9): This corresponds to "v'Hachtel Lo Chutalt" (4).
Malbim (according to the Nimshal): At Ma'amad Har Sinai, He gave to them Torah and Mitzvos, and they changed their clothes; they became to Him "Mamleches Kohanim v'Goy Kadosh" (Shemos 19:6).
Why is the Kesones called Beged Tachton? Indeed, a Kohen Gadol wears it under the Me'il, Efod and Choshen, but here discusses a Kohen Hedyot, who has only four garments! Perhaps it is because the Avnet is girded over it. (PF)
"V'Shibatzta ha'Kesones Shesh v'Asisa Mitznefes Shesh v'Avnet Ta'aseh Ma'ase Rokem" (Shemos 28:39) - Malbim applies Rokem also to the Kesones. All other Meforshim apply it only to the Avnet, which included colored wool. (PF)
What do we learn from "va'En'alech Tachash"?
Yevamos 102b: A sandal stitched with linen may not be used for Chalitzah 1 .
Rashi: [I put on you shoes of] leather/
Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: I put esteemed shoes on your feet.
Malbim: Shoes for a woman correspond to Michnesayim (underpants) that Kohanim wore.
103b: If so, we should say that only Tachash may be used! The verse of Chalitzah says "shoe" twice, to include (leather of other animals).
What is the meaning of "va'Echbeshech ba'Shesh"?
Rashi: I wrapped you [with linen]. Radak ? the Vov switches it to past tense, even though there is a Patach under it 1 , like "va'E'emod Alav va'Amosesehu" (Shmuel II, 1:10).
Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: I sanctified from you Kohanim, to serve in front of Me with a linen Mitznefes (turban).
Malbim: This corresponds to the Avnet (belt) that Kohanim wore 2 .
How did he cover her with Meshi?
Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: The Kohen Gadol is covered with colored garments.
Rashi citing Tanchuma Tetzaveh 1: This refers to the seven clouds of glory ? "Lo Yamish Amud he'Anan Yomam" (Shemos 13:22).
Malbim: He covered her head and body. This corresponds to Mitznefes 1 for a man.
Since he associates these with the four garments of a Kohen Hedyot, he should have said Migba'as, the word used for a Kohen Hedyot's turban! (PF)
