1)

What does the Torah mean when it writes "ve'Chi Yit'har ha'Zav mi'Zovo"?

1.

Rashi and Targum Yonasan: It means 'when the Zivus ceases'.

2)

Why does the Torah add the (otherwise superfluous) word "mi'Zovo"?

1.

Megilah, 8a: In order to Darshen "mi'Zovo", 've'Lo mi'Zovo u'mi'Nega'o' 1 - If he is both a Zav and a Metzora, he does not need to postpone counting seven clean days until he is cured from Tzara'as. 2

2.

Megilah, 8a: We learn from the 'Mem' of "mi'Zovo" - 'Miktzas Zovo' - that even a Zav who had only two sightings requires seven clean days.

3.

Megilah, 8a: "mi'Zovo - VeSafar" teaches us that a Zav who saw teo sightings requires seven clen days. 3

1

The Gemara in Nidah, 37a makes the same D'rashah on "ve'Im Taharah mi'Zovah" in Pasuk 28, adding 've'Lo mi'Zovah ve'Leidasah".

2

See Torah Temimah, note 50.

3

Torah Temimah: Because the 'Mem' in "mi'Zovo" means 'part of' - the full three day Zivus.

3)

Why does the Torah add the word "Vesafar Lo"?

1.

Sifra: To teach us that the Zav is believed to count fir himself and does not require two witnesses. 1

1

See Torah Temimah, note 118, who ealborates.

4)

Why does the Torah add the (otherwise superfluous) word "Shiv'as Yamim le'Taharaso"?

1.

Rashi: To teach us that the seven clean days that the Zav count must be consecutive one ongoing bout of Taharah) and in the event that he sees Zivus in the middle, he must begin counting all over again.

5)

Why does the Torah add the otherwise superfluous) word "Verachatz Besaro ba'Nayim"?

1.

Kidushin, 25a: In order to Darshen that, just as Besaro is external, so too must all external limbs touch the water, but not internal ones,- even the tongue 1 since they are Tum'as Beis ha'Setarim.

1

Refer to 15:11:0.1:2.

6)

What is the definition of "Mayim Chayim"?

1.

Rashi: "Mayim Chayim" is spring-water. 1

1

A Zav is the only Tamei person who needs to immerse in spring-water, and not in a regular Mikvah.

7)

" ? be'Mayim Chayim Vetaher". What are the ramifications of "Vetaher"?

1.

Megilah 8b: He is no longer Metamei K'lei Cheres be'Heset 1 - even if he subsequently has anothere sighting, he does not become Tamei retroactively.

1

Even though he still requires Ha'arev Shemesh. See Torah Temimah note 55.

8)

Bearing in mind that the Zav is destined to bring his Korban on the following day (as the Torah goes on to state), when does he Tovel?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah: Seeing as, in order to bring his Korban on the eighth day, he requires Ha'arev Shemesh on the seventh, 1 he is obligated to Tovel before nightfall of the seventh day. 2

1

Refer to 14:14:3:1.

2

Nevertheless, in the event that he sees Keri between the Tevilah and nightfall, the seven clean days are cancelled and he must begin counting all over again. See Oznayim la'Torah, and see Ba'al ha'Turim on Pasuk 14.
