Why will the nation be punished? They were deceived!
Radak: Even though the false Nevi'im tricked them, they should have distinguished between the true and false Nevi'im. A true Navi makes them fulfill Torah law; false Nevi'im commend their idolatry, which is the Bitul of Torah! Even though false Nevi'im are correct in some of their predictions for the future, they should have established this to be Kesem (refer to 14:14:2:1-2), and not Nevu'ah, since their words are to nullify Torah, i.e. idolatry. Even if they do wonders, the Torah says to kill [such a Navi], for he spoke against [Torah - Devarim 13:6]. The wonder was fulfilled "for Hashem tests you" (ibid., 13:4)!
Why does it mention hunger before the sword?
Malbim: Dying of hunger is worse than via the sword - "Tovim Hayu Chalelei Cherev me'Chalelei Ra'av" (Eichah 4:9). Therefore the sword is mentioned first regarding death 1 (verse 15). For not being buried, it mentions hunger first, for since with the hunger is the enemy's sword, they will not let them bury their dead.
Why will they not be buried?
Radak: This is an added punishment for their sin, above the afflictions and death.
Why does it mention their wives?
Radak: They believed the Sheker more than the men did.
Why are the sons and daughters punished?
Radak: Minors die due to the sins of their parents. This is Hashem's law; He is "Kel Emunah v'Ein Avel" (Devarim 32:4).
What is the significance of "pouring their evil on them"?
Malbim: Their measure was already full. I will pour it on them; their evil itself will punish them.
