Why does it say "va'Tchal (feminine) David"?

Malbim citing ha'Efodi: The subject is omitted. For three years, David wanted to go to war and take him from Geshor and take vengeance from him. The verb is Po'el Yotzei; now, Avshalom's mother or his sister Tamar, caused David to cease this desire; she saw that he was consoled over Amnon.
