THE TIME OF ACQUISITION FOR AN EXCHANGE (Yerushalmi Halachah 1 Daf 14a):

תמן תנינן כל הנעשה דמים באחר כיון שזכה זה נתחייב בחליפיו.

(a)

The Mishnah taught (in Maseches Kidushin) that any item that is used like money to buy something else, as soon as one person makes an acquisition, the other person becomes responsible for the other item.

R. Yochanan: This is only true for switching an ox with a cow or a donkey with an ox; but a pile of produce with another pile of produce it does not make an acquisition.

רב ירמיה בשם רב אפי' ציבור בציבור קנה.

R. Yirmiyah citing Rav: Even a pile with a pile makes an acquisition.

ר' אבא בר מינה בשם רב המחליף אברוקלון באמבורוקלון קנה.

R. Aba bar Mina citing Rav: One who exchanges a large storehouse of produce with a large storehouse of produce, makes an acquisition.
