1)

(a)What does the Mishnah rule with regard to someone who sows his field with Terumah seeds be'Shogeg?

(b)Then why does it forbid someone who sowed be'Meizid to do so?

(c)Under which circumstances does the Tana give Shogeg the same Din as Meizid?

(d)In the case of someone who plants flax-seeds, even be'Meizid, the Tana obligates him to plow the field, even if it has already grown one third. Why is that?

1)

(a)The Mishnah rules that someone who sows his field with Terumah seeds be'Shogeg - is permitted to plow it in the early stages.

(b)And the reason that it forbids someone who sowed be'Meizid to do so - is because since the field now has bears the title of 'a Terumah field', it will look as if he is destroying Terumah (see also Tiferes Yisrael).

(c)Once the crops have grown to one third of their full growth however - the Tana gives Shogeg the same Din as Meizid.

(d)In the case of someone who plants flax-seeds, even be'Meizid, the Tana obligates him to plow the field, even if it has already grown one third - because at that stage, the crops have a Din of Terumah, and it is forbidden to destroy Terumah.

2)

(a)The Mishnah declares the above subject to Leket, Shikchah and Pe'ah. According to the Tana Kama, who is eligible to pick it?

(b)Assuming it is picked by Aniyei Yisrael, what do they do with it?

2)

(a)The Mishnah declares the above subject to Leket, Shikchah and Pe'ah. According to the Tana Kama - even Aniyei Yisrael are eligible to pick it ...

(b)... not to eat it, but to sell to Kohanim for the cheaper value of Terumah (and the money is theirs to do with as they please).

3)

(a)What does Rebbi Tarfon say?

(b)What objection does Rebbi Akiva raise to Rebbi Tarfon's ruling?

(c)Like whom is the Halachah?

3)

(a)According to Rebbi Tarfon - only poor Kohanim are permitted to pick it.

(b)Rebbi Akiva objects to this however - contending that in that case, they should only be permitted to sell it to Tahor Kohanim (since Tamei Kohanim are no more permitted to eat it than Zarim are).

(c)The Halachah is - like Rebbi Akiva.

4)

(a)They are also subject to Ma'asros. Which Ma'asros?

(b)Are they also subject to Terumah?

(c)Are Aniyei Yisrael eligible to receive Ma'aser Ani from them?

(d)Why does the Tana prefer a Yisrael Ani to beat the corn with sticks rather than to thresh it using animals?

(e)What should a poor man who does decide to thresh, do to avoid the problem?

4)

(a)They are also subject to Ma'asros - Rishon, Sheini and Ani (in the third and sixth years of the Sh'mitah cycle.

(b)And they are subject to Terumah too (see Tos. Yom-Tov).

(c)Aniyei Yisrael are eligible to receive Ma'aser Ani from them - which they are obligated to give or sell to Kohanim (as we learned earlier).

(d)The Tana prefers a Yisrael Ani to beat the corn with sticks rather than to thresh it using animals - because on the one hand (unless the cow belongs to a Kohen) a Yisrael is not allowed to feed Gidulei Terumah to his cow, and on the other, the owner is faced with the La'av of not muzzling his ox whilst it threshes.

(e)A poor man who does decide to thrash avoids the problem - by tying a basket round the animal's neck, filled with the same species that it is threshing.

5)

(a)What is the status of 'Gidulei Terumah' (Terumah that one re-planted) min ha'Torah?

(b)Then why did the Chachamim decree that it should have the Din of Terumah?

(c)What does the Mishnah say about 'Gidulei Gidulin'?

(d)Why does the Tana declare Chulin, Gidulei ...

1. ... Tevel, Gidulei Ma'aser Rishon (whose Terumah has not been taken) and Gidulei Meduma, despite the fact that they all contain Terumah?

2. ... S'fichei Shevi'is and T'rumas Chutz la'Aretz?

3. ... Bikurim?

(e)The Mishnah also declares Gidulei Hekdesh and Ma'aser Sheini, Chulin. What is the owner nevertheless Chayav to do when he picks them?

5)

(a)'Gidulei Terumah' (Terumah that one re-planted) - is Chulin, min ha'Torah.

(b)The Chachamim decreed that it should have the Din of Terumah - to discourage Kohanim from holding on to Tamei Terumah until the planting season in order to re-plant it.

(c)The Mishnah rules that 'Gidulei Gidulin' (If one subsequently re-planted the Gidulin a second time) - is Chulin.

(d)The Tana declares Chulin, Gidulei ...

1. ... Tevel, Gidulei Ma'aser Rishon (whose Terumah has not been taken) and Gidulei Meduma (despite the fact that they all contain Terumah) - because the Terumah is in the minority.

2. ... S'fichei Shevi'is and T'rumas Chutz la'Aretz - because they are both uncommon, and what's more, the former is not annual.

3. ...Bikurim - because, seeing as it is confined to the seven species, it is uncommon.

(e)The Mishnah also declares Gidulei Hekdesh and Ma'aser Sheini, Chulin. Nevertheless, when he picks them - the owner is Chayav to redeem the entire batch for the value of the original Sa'ah.

(a)What does the Mishnah say about s field with a hundred rows of re-planted Terumah and one of Chulin (and the Kohen does not know which row is Chulin, assuming that it is a species whose seeds ...

1. ... rot ('Zar'o Kalah')?

2. ... do not rot?

(b)What is the reason for the latter ruling?

6)

(a)The Mishnah rules that a field with a hundred rows of re-planted Terumah and one of Chulin (and the Kohen does not know which row is Chulin), assuming that it is a species whose seeds ...

1. ... rot ('Zar'o Kalah') - all the rows are permitted.

2. ... do not rot - all the rows are forbidden ...

(b)... because Karka is not Batel (see Tiferes Yisrael and Tos-Yom-Tov).

7)

(a)And what does the Mishnah say about Gidulei Tevel? When is it Mutar and when is it Asur?

(b)What, besides onions and 'Lof' (a species of onions) does the Mishnah list as being a species whose seeds rot?

(c)What does Rebbi Shimon say about garlic?

(d)What, besides 'garlic has the same Din as barley' might he mean (see Tos. Yom-Tov)?

7)

(a)The Mishnah also rules that - Gidulei Tevel of a species whose seeds rot -are permitted, but not that of a species of one that does not.

(b)Besides onions and 'Lof' (a species of onions) the Mishnah lists - garlic as being a species whose seeds rot.

(c)Rebbi Shimon says - that garlic is like barley.

(d)Besides 'garlic has the same Din as barley', he might mean - that once garlic attains the size of barley, its seeds no longer rot (see Tos. Yom-Tov).

8)

(a)The Mishnah discusses someone who weeds together with a Nochri on his (the Nochri's) property, among the Chasiyos. What are 'Chasiyos'?

(b)What does the Tana permit him to do?

(c)Why is he not permitted to eat even 'K'va' (proper meals), seeing as the field belongs to a Nochri?

8)

(a)The Mishnah discusses someone who weeds together with a Nochri on his (the Nochri's) property' among the Chasiyos - garlic, Lof, onions and leek.

(b)The Tana permits him to - eat from them Arai (casually).

(c)Despite the fact that the field belongs to a Nochri, he is not permitted to eat even 'K'va' (proper meals) - because this Tana holds 'Ein Kinyan le'Akum be'Eretz Yisrael Lehafki'a min ha'Ma'aser (a Nochri does not have a Kinyan in the field, to remove the Chiyuv of Ma'asros)'.

9)

(a)What does the Mishnah rule with regard to Gidulei Terumah Teme'ah that a Kohen planted?

(b)Why are we not afraid that he will therefore retain his Tamei Terumah until the planting season and plant it then, in order that it should become Tahor?

(c)The Tana Kama requires him to cut away all that is initially ready to eat, before being permitted to eat the rest. What does Rebbi Yehudah say?

(d)Like whom is the Halachah?

9)

(a)The Mishnah rules that Gidulei Terumah Teme'ah that a Kohen planted - become Tahor.

(b)We are not afraid that he will therefore retain his Tamei Terumah until the planting season and plant it then, in order that it should become Tahor - because a. Terumah sells cheaply, and b. should it become Tamei, it will need to be burned. Consequently, he is unlikely to spoil his field by doing so (see also Tos-Yom-Tov).

(c)The Tana Kama requires him to cut away all that is ready to eat when it starts to grow, before being permitted to eat the rest. Rebbi Yehudah - requires him to do this a second time.

(d)The Halachah is like the Tana Kama.
