FOOTNOTES:

==========

(1) The tenth Kidush is done upon removing the gold vestments, and it is not accompanied by a Tevilah (since he is now going to be donning his normal, weekday clothing and not Bigdei Kodesh). This chart follows the opinion of the Rabanan who argue with Rebbi Meir (31b). According to Rebbi Meir, though, there are two Kidushim done at the time of the first Tevilah, and there is no additional Kidush after the fifth Tevilah.

(2) This is derived from the verse, "u'Va Aharon..." (Vayikra 16:23). Even though this verse is written right after the Avodos of Yom Kipur (which are done after the second Tevilah), nevertheless a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai teaches that the Kaf and Machteh are not removed until after the Kohen's Ayil and the nation's Ayil have been offered, in order to require an additional two changes of clothing, and a total of five Tevilos upon changing clothes.

(3) Rebbi Meir holds that the Kidush was not for the removal of the old Begadim, but in preparation for the donning of the new Begadim after his Tevilah. Therefore, even at the time of the first Tevilah -- when he changes from Bigdei Chol to Bigdei Kodesh -- he must do Kidush Yadayim v'Raglayim before the Tevilah (31b).

(4) TOSFOS (DH Tana d'Vei Rebbi Yishmael) writes that Tana d'Vei Rebbi Yishmael derives the Tevilos the same way as Rebbi Yehudah does. Tana d'Vei Rebbi Yishmael mentions his Kal v'Chomers only to show that in truth they are insufficient, for each Kal v'Chomer has a Pircha (either because of "Kaparaso Merubah" or because of "Nichnas Bifnim").

(5) The verse implies that the reason for the Tevilah is because the garments are Bigdei Kodesh. This teaches that both changing from Bigdei Zahav to Bigdei Lavan and changing from Bigdei Lavan to Bigdei Zahav require Tevilah. (Rashi)
