FOOTNOTES:
==========
(1) This is the case of a Na'arah Me'urasah (who is a Besulah). A Na'arah Me'urasah who is not a Bas Kohen is Chayav Sekilah. An Arusah who does not fit into the category of Na'arah Me'urasah (such as one who has passed the age of Na'arus, or who is not a Besulah, or has once entered a Chupah for marriage) is punished with Chenek, like a Nesu'ah.
(2) The Rabanan maintain that Sekilah is more severe than Sereifah, and thus the Torah would not give a less severe punishment to an Arusah Bas Kohen (i.e. a punishment of Sereifah) than it gives to an Arusah Bas Yisrael (who is punished with Sekilah).
(3) Rebbi Shimon maintains that Sereifah is more severe than Sekilah, and the Torah would not give a less severe punishment to an Arusah Bas Kohen (i.e. a punishment of Sekilah) than it gives to a Nesu'ah (who is punished with Sereifah).
(4) Rebbi Yishmael maintains that just as the Torah singles out only an Arusah Bas Yisrael for the punishment of Sekilah (i.e. she is not punished with Chenek, like a Nesu'ah), so, too, it singles out only an Arusah Bas Kohen (and not a Nesu'ah Bas Kohen) to give her Sereifah. (Rebbi Yishmael holds like Rebbi Shimon, that Sereifah is more severe than Sekilah, and the Torah was more stringent with a Bas Kohen and punished here with Sereifah.)
