Does Hashem make us stray?

1.

Rashi: He has the ability to remove the Yetzer ha'Ra - "cha'Chomer b'Yad ha'Yotzer" (Yirmeyah 18:6), "v'Hasirosi Es Lev ha'Even..." (Yechezkel 11:19).

2.

Radak: When we see serenity of Resha'im, and the length of our Galus, and the constant afflictions on us, we stray from Your ways and say that there is no more hope. It is as if You make us stray via lengthening the Galus. This does not refer to everyone, rather, the many who despaired from Ge'ulah due to the length of the Galus. The verse discusses the Klal, even though it was not everyone. Similarly, "va'Yomer Hashem El Moshe Ad Anah Me'antem" (Shemos 16:28) due to a few who went out on Shabbos to collect manna. Also Daniel said "Chatanu v'Avinu Hirshanu u'Maradnu" (9:5).

3.

Malbim: This is another claim why You must do for us. (a) Via showing us that Your innards well up with mercy on us, we learn that You are merciful and gracious. By holding back Your mercy, You make us stray from these ways of Yours, for we do not see them. (b) Since we see Your Kin'ah and Gevurah to punish sinners, we learn Yir'as Hashem; people fear His punishments. Since You do not show Your Kin'ah and Gevurah, this veers our heart from fearing You.

What is "Takshi'ach"?

1.

Rashi: It is an expression of hardening the heart.

2.

Radak: It is cruelty and distancing the heart from the beloved. The same applies to "Hikshi'ach Baneha l'Lo Lah" (Iyov 39:16).

How is returning for the sake of Your servants?

1.

Radak: Avadecha are the Avos. Shivtei Nachalasecha are the 12 Shevatim. They were a Nachalah for You, like it says "Yakov Chavel Nachalaso" (Devarim 32:9).
