1)

Who are "Mekudashai", and why did He call them?

1.

Rashi: They are Paras and Madai, the men of Koresh and Daryavesh. He called them to begin to fight [Bavel].

2.

Radak: They are Paras and Madai. Hashem aroused them to come to Bavel. It is as if He commanded and Kidesh (designated) and summonsed them to come.

3.

Malbim: They are Belshatzar's men, whom Hashem designated to rebel against their master, based on Daniel's Nevu'ah, and to call the army of Paras and Madai.

2)

Why does it say "Karasi Giborai l'Api"?

1.

Rashi: I called them to do Charon Api (My anger) against them.

2.

Malbim: "Giborai" are the army of Paras and Madai. They are prepared to fulfill vengeance of My anger.

3)

Why are they called "Alizei"?

1.

Radak: They will rejoice.

4)

Why are they called "Ga'avasi"?

1.

Rashi: I glorify Myself via them.

2.

Radak: I will be haughty over Bavel via them.

3.

Malbim: [They will rejoice] that My grandeur will be seen via them. There are two Midos among soldiers. Some go only to destroy lands, for they are cruel and lust to murder. Others go to make a name for themselves, and to aggrandize their king, via their Gevurah. The former destroy more. Machaneh Paras and Madai had both. "L'Api" is for cruelty; "Alizei Ga'avasi" is for pride and honor.
