Malbim: It is what he did due to his pride. Hashem commanded him only "Lishlol Shalal" (6), but he destroyed great nations.

What is "Tiferes Rom Einav"?

Rashi: He glorified himself in his pride. "Rom Einav" is pride, like "Geva Einayim u'Rechav Levav" (Tehilim 101:5).

Radak: This is a repetition of "Godel Levav." It is called "Rom Einav" because haughtiness of heart is seen in the eyes - "Geva Einayim u'Rechav Levav."

Malbim: He did not want to recognize that he is only a staff in Hashem's hand.
