Rashi: This is setting Chochmah. Som is Pa'ul conjugation.

Ibn Ezra: They put their intellect to understand Mikra. Som is investigation of the heart, like "va'Etenah Es Libi Lada'as Chochmah."

Malbim: They made them understand oral Torah from written Torah.

What do we learn from "va'Yavinu ba'Mikra"?

Malbim (from Megilah 3a): This is the tradition. Also the verse (breaks) and Ta'amim (notes for reading the Torah, which show how the words are grouped) - do we read b'Chalev Imo or b'Chalav, .Zecher Amalek or Zachar, and five verses in which it is not clear (how to group the words).
